Post by SamanthaNasser on Thu Aug 29, 2013 3:56 am

Students,

If you have any questions for me (Adam, the new instructor), please feel free to post them here so that everyone can benefit.

Feel free, though, to email me directly at sigdor3@gmail.com.

Thanks,

Adam Petersen

Essay Topic

Post by alexarze on Thu Aug 29, 2013 7:18 am

I apologize, but I'm extremely unclear as to what the essay is meant to be over. Is it supposed to cover all of the questions in the Summer Assignment page, or is that to our own discretion? I'm quite confused. Hope that's not too stupid of a question.

mbnkme: Go to the "Students' Work and Assignments" tab on the main AP English page, click on "Summer Assignment" and then click on "New Topic" at which point you will post your paper and it will be filed under "Summer Assignment."

alexarze: The questions are meant to get you thinking through the similarities and differences between a book and its adaptation to the silver screen. You are not to merely answer them line by line and in fact, depending on the film and book, some questions might not be relevant.

In light of these questions (and others you may pose on your own), it would behoove you to construct a brief introduction that ends with a thesis (a general answer to said questions comparing book and film) to give you focus as you organize your topics and arguments. (e.g. of a good thesis: "This is a terrible adaptation because the film uses the precious time it has to focus on secondary characters thereby undermining the powerful exploration of guilt and sin that looms over Hester Prynne and Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale.")

Ok. So just because Mr. Petersen said I could, how many of you guys are in Speech and Debate? And if you do, what league? We may have run into each other.

I am part of the Vermont National Forensics League... or just the NFL. What about you?

Hey, so apparently the classroom link changed to the AP World History link? Not sure why, checked the link in my email that previously worked and the one I've had bookmarked since day one, and both take me to the AP World History classroom.

Same here.

MR. PETERSEN: Is there a phone number we can text you through? I really need a more efficient way to contact you. I've been out of town all week and don't know if I have all the homework.
